The Supreme Court has provided carte blanche to the government in the aspects of drafting regulations to social media.
The Government has now drafted few rules regarding,
Draft Rule 3(5): social media intermediaries should provide information/assistant when required by “lawful order” by any government agency. The “originator” need to be traced to register an FIR.
Draft Rule 3(2)(B): Intermediaries should publish rules, privacy policies to stop users from posting materials which are paedophilic, phonographic, hateful, rational objectionable or invasion of privacy.
Draft Rule 3(7): Intermediaries to “appoint in India, a nodal person of contact for 24/7 coordination with law enforcement agencies”
